NREGA an effective tool for eradication of rural poverty and for income generation

In Puducherry, the Lieutenant Governor Dr. Iqbal Singh has said that the Flagship programme of NREGA has been used as an effective tool in the Union Territory for eradication of rural poverty and for income generation. Inaugurating the three-day Assembly Session, Dr. Singh listed out the achievements of his government and said though the implementation of certain programmes were delayed due to paucity of funds, it will now be taken up with renewed vigour. Dr. Iqbal Singh appealed to the Members to explore the possibility of mobilising additional resources to meet the increased outlay proposed by the state Planning Board for the next financial year.<br/> Earlier, the main opposition AIADMK staged a walkout protesting against the non-implementation of various projects promised by the Government and various other issues including rising prices of essential commodities.
