In Uttar Pradesh, the election process for Assembly polls has begun today with the issuance of notification for the first phase of Assembly polls by the state Governor B L Joshi. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that in the first phase, 55 constituencies spread over 10 districts including Sitapur, Gonda, Basti, Baharaich, Balrampur Barabanki, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Siddhartha Nagar and Shrawasti are going on polls. January 19 is the last date for nominations while voting will be held on February 8. Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Lucknow against the state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma and BSP MP Jugal Kishore for alleged violation of the model code of conduct. Both the leaders had held an election meeting without taking permission.
