Notification for second phase of Assembly elections in Bihar issued

Notification for the second phase of Assembly elections in Bihar has been issued. AIR Patna correspondent reports that 45 constituencies spread across six districts – Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur and East Champaran of the state will go to polls in this phase on the 24th of October. The last day for filing of nominations for the second phase is the 6th of next month and scrutiny will be over by the 7th October. Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers till October 9. 11 candidates have so far filed their nomination papers for the first phase of assembly polls. The BJP has released the list of 87 candidates. The party has denied tickets to four sitting MLAs including one Minister Ramji Das Rishidev. The three other legislators who do not figure in the list are Sanjeev Jha from Saharasa, Laxmi Narayan Mehta from Forbesganj and Krishna Kumar Singh from Begusarai. Senior BJP Leader Anant Kumar said that the party will contest on 102 seats. He said, the Central Election Committee has authorised party Chief Nitin Gadkari to finalise the names for the remaining 15 seats.Nationalist Congress Party, NCP, has released the list of 16 candidates for the first phase of elections in the state. CPI(ML) has also released the list of 48 candidates.
