The civil soceity's campaign to end corruption in the country has ended productively. Noted Gandhian Anna Hazare, who was on fast from Tuesday, to press for action ended his protest today with the government meeting his demand. As demanded by him, the Government today issued a notification on the formation of a joint committee to draft an effective Anti Corruption Court – Lokpal Bill. The notification was one of the key demands of the anti-corruption campaign launched by Gandhian Anna Hazare. Besides the terms of what the committee will do, the notification listed names of those on the 10-member to be headed by Senior Minister Pranab Mukherjee. It will contain 5 members from Government and 5 from the Civil Society. Ending his fast after offering water to people sitting with him on the hunger strike Anna Hazare told a large of people gathered at Jantar Mantar in the national capital that the fight against the corruption will continue and this is only a beginning. He said this is a victory for the entire nation Welcoming the development the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the joining of hands of civil society and the government on the Lokpal Bill issue is a step that augurs well for democracy. In a statement in New Delhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh said the government intends to introduce the historic legislation in the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Finance Minster Pranab Mukherjee has expressed confidence that a satisfactory and amicable solution on Lok Pal issue is possible. Replying to a question on the proposal to include the Prime Minister’s office and judiciary within the purview of the Bill, he said there are several proposals but refused to go into the contents at this stage. The campaign comes in the backdrop of many scams coming to light.
