The government today clarified that it has not banned the export of Basmati rice and it is not even considering any proposal to ban it. The clarification came in the wake of rumours of a ban on the export of Basmati rice. Ministry for Commerce and Industry in a statement said, there is no change in the present policy and the export of the commodity is continuing unabated. During the period from April 2015 to August 2015, exports of Basmati rice grew by nearly 17 per cent in quantity terms as compared to the corresponding period during the previous year. The statement said, all steps are being taken to explore more markets and promote retail packs to improve the realization for Basmati rice.
