Northern India reels under severe cold wave; Govt schools in Delhi close till Saturday

Northern India still reels under severe cold wave. Talking to AIR, the Met Director, Mr R.C Vasistha, said that northern parts of the country including Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may experience light to moderate rain on Tuesday.<br/><br/>Heavy snowfall is also expected in northern parts of country for the next couple of days.<br/><br/>The national capital witnessed misty morning on Tuesday. AIR correspondent reports that flight operations at the IGI Airport remained normal on Tuesday morning.<br/><br/>Delhi government has closed its schools upto class eighth from Tuesday to 16th of this month.<br/><br/>In Rajasthan also the State Government has decided to close all schools for two days from Tuesday due to severe cold. AIR Jaipur correspondent reports that declining in temperature is continuing in Rajasthan. <br/><br/>Fog is also affecting normal life in the state. <br/><br/>As the visibility level is zero due to fog on Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar distts. <br/><br/>BSF has increased vigilance and BSF personal are using flood lights in even day time. Fog is affecting rail traffic also and in Bikaner division crackers are being used near rail tracks to alert drivers. <br/><br/>Bone chilling cold wave is continuing in plain areas and temps. are ranging between 1 to 9 degree C. Jaipur is feeling coldest days, temp. is declining here and dips to 2.2 degreeC. According to Met. Office on Tuesday rain will further intense cold in most of the areas.<br/><br/>AIR Patna correspondent reports that rail and road traffic is badly affected due to dense fog.<br/><br/>Normal life in Bihar has been paralysed following intense cold wave. There is cloudy weather throughout the state on Tuesday. Vehicular and railway traffic have been affected due to dense fog.<br/><br/>Trains passing through Bihar are running 5-12 hours late. Passengers are suffering a lot due to late running of trains.<br/><br/>Cold wave swept across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with mercury recording a drop of up to three notches below normal.<br/><br/>Amritsar was the coldest place in Punjab with a low of 1.2 degrees Celsius. Night temperature in Kashmir and Ladakh showed an upward trend, while Jammu recorded a considerable drop in mercury, quiet below normal.<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh most parts of eastern region is engulfed with dense fog Tuesday morning. While fog has disrupted rail, road and air traffic badly.<br/><br/>No respite is in the offing as the Met department said that similar weather will continue till day or two.<br/><br/>The intense cold has claimed several lives in different district including six persons in Bahraich, four deaths each were reported from Balrampur, Barabanki and Muzaffarnagar districts.<br/><br/>The weather scientist has predicted that western disturbance might cause light rains in western parts of the state while central and eastern parts might witness cloudy skies and drizzles at isolated places.
