North, S-Korea officials met for talks

North and South Korean officials met for talks today after months of tensions but failed to agree on arrangements for a family reunion programme. A south Korean unification ministry spokesman said they narrowed differences on the dates but failed to agree on the venue. They will meet again on September 24. The North this month suggested restarting the programme after a one-year lapse, a move which could ease tensions. Spokesman Chun Hae-Sung said the two sides, however, could not agree which building they should use at the jointly-run Mount Kumgang tourist resort in the North. Chun said their side proposed meetings at the family reunion centre at Kumgang while the North insisted on a vague place in the resort. The North's official Korean Central News Agency confirmed there would be another round of talks on September 24, but also said that both sides agreed the reunions would be held from October 21 to 27.
