US President Barack Obama has said, North Korea's nuclear test was a grave threat to regional security and to international peace and stability. In a White House statement, he said, the provocative and destabilizing actions of North Korea is poised to isolate and impoverish its people through its relentless pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missile capabilities.<br/><br/>The United Nations Security Council has agreed to begin drawing up new sanctions against North Korea over its fifth nuclear test. The decision was taken at an urgent meeting of the 15-member Council Friday. <br/><br/>The Council, in a press statement, condemned the test and said, it will start discussions on significant measures against Pyongyang including new sanctions. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the underground nuclear test as a brazen breach of council resolutions. North Korea has been subject to five sets of UN sanctions since its first test in 2006.<br/><br/>It had Friday announced that it successfully carried out its fifth nuclear test.
