The South Korean military says, North Korea launched a ballistic missile from the western province of South Pyongan today. In a statement, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff's office said, the missile was launched from a location near Pukchang, northeast of the capital Pyongyang. <br/><br/>It said the missile flew eastward about 500 kilometers and fell into the Sea of Japan. Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshihide Suga, said the missile landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone and no damage to ships or airplanes was reported. The White House said the medium-range missile had a shorter range than those used in North Korea's last three tests. <br/><br/>The launch comes a week after Pyongyang tested what it said was a new type of rocket capable of carrying a large nuclear warhead. Last Monday, the UN Security Council again demanded that Pyongyang conduct no further such tests.
