North Korea has accepted South Korea's offer to attend high-level talks next week. South Korean media said, the meeting, on 9 January, will focus on finding a way for North Korean athletes to attend the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea in February. <br/><br/><br/>The meeting is expected to be held at Panmunjom, on the border. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said this week that sending a delegation to the games would be a good opportunity to show unity of the people.<br/>The US and South Korea have agreed to suspend contentious military exercises off the Korean Peninsula until after the Winter Olympic Games in a sign that nuclear tensions with North Korea may be easing. US President Donald Trump said on Twitter yesterday that planned talks between Seoul and Pyongyang are a good thing. The two Koreas restored a cross-border hotline on Wednesday that had been shut down since 2016. <br/>A White House statement said, Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in discussed the situation on the peninsula in a phone call yesterday. The two leaders agreed to de-conflict the Olympics and military exercises so that United States and Republic of Korea forces can focus on ensuring the security of the Games.
