Several parts of North India reeled under severe cold conditions as a thick blanket of fog affected the movement of road and rail traffic in the region. The mercury in the plains of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and the national capital dipped over the last few days due to rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.<br/><br/>Delhi shivered under severe cold conditions as minimum temperature in the capital dipped to 8 degrees Celsius on Saturday. <br/><br/>In Rajasthan, Churu quivered at 1.8 degrees Celsius. A dense to very dense fog was also witnessed at a few places in the northern parts of Rajasthan, which affected vehicular traffic.<br/><br/>Cold conditions prevailed in Punjab and Haryana with a thick blanket of fog affecting the movement of air, rail and road traffic in the region. Chandigarh recorded a minimum of 7.6 degrees Celsius. Bathinda was the coldest place in the region, recording a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius. <br/><br/>In Himachal Pradesh, intense cold conditions disrupted normal life in different parts of the state. The below freezing temperature led to the freezing of water bodies and drinking water taps in parts of the state. All natural sources of water such as lakes, springs, rivulets and tributaries of major snow-fed rivers have frozen. Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti and Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district had a low of minus 8.7 and minus 3 degrees Celsius.<br/><br/>After overcast of skies for almost a week in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday remained bright and dry day with plenty of sunshine spell. The maximum temperature was recorded 2.5 Degree Celsius while minimum temperature reached minus 9.6 degree Celsius in Leh. Rivers stream and Lake have started to freeze in solid. The MeT office has forecast a mainly dry weather in the state over the next few days.
