People in parts of north India had some respite from biting cold on Saturday though the toll rose to 229 with 15 more deaths during the past 24 hours. Official sources said, all the fresh deaths took place in Uttar Pradesh.<br/><br/>While minimum temperature in the national capital rose to 9 deg C, the maximum stood at 12.1 deg C for the second day–the lowest in the last five years.<br/><br/>Fog in many parts of north India forced the railways to reschedule six trains, while over four dozen trains ran late.<br/><br/>In Rajasthan, Nall in Bikaner area has registered the lowest temperature of 1.3 degrees Celsius. Fog accompanied by cold wave disrupted the life in the entire Rajasthan forcing the rescheduling of flights and trains. Road traffic has also been severely affected with Mount Abu, the only hill resort in the state reeling under sub-zero temperature.<br/><br/>Though both the day and night temperatures showed an increase in the national capital, mild icy winds have forced people to remain inside. The traffic on the roads is very thin though the air and train services are normal. Delhi recorded a maximum of over 12 degrees celsius for the second successive day, which is the lowest day temperature of the season in the last five years. Met Office forecasts that foggy conditions are likely to return to the capital by this evening with maximum temperature hovering around 13 degrees and the minimum 8 degrees Celsius. Parts of Uttar Pradesh are under the severe grip of cold wave conditions.<br/><br/>In Jammu and Kashmir, the cold wave conditions intensified with mercury dipping a few notches further. The world famous Pahalgam recorded minus 7 degrees and Ladakh region reeling under around minus 20 degrees Celsius. The night temperature rose marginally in the plains of Himachal Pradesh but the hilly areas continue to be under sub-zero level. In Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, dense fog disrupted normal life and in Uttarakhand, people yesterday enjoyed the bright sun after a spell of cold. In Bihar, the temperature also rose and the capital Patna recorded 6.4 degrees celsius.
