North India reels under cold wave

North India continued to reel under cold wave with Himachal Pradesh being the coldest place. High-altitude areas of the state witnessed temperatures between eight and 13 degrees below the freezing point. <br/><br/>The Keylong in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti recorded a low of minus 5.2 degree Celsius. The local MeT office has predicted rains, thunderstorm or snow in lower, mid and higher hills on December 5 and 6 and dry weather from December 6 onwards.<br/><br/>In Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius yesterday. Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius.<br/><br/>Adampur town in Punjab continued to reel under biting cold conditions with a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded the same night<br/>temperature of 6.2 Celsius. <br/><br/>The mercury remained below normal in most parts of the neighbouring Haryana. Hisar was the coldest place in Haryana with a minimum temperature of 5.7C, four notches below the normal.<br/><br/>Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a minimum temperature of 8.2C.

North India reels under cold wave

Cold wave continued to sweep most parts of north India. Minimum temperatures hovered between one to five degree Celsius below normal in several parts of Punjab and Haryana yesterday. Normal life was affected in the two states as fog reduced visibility in the morning. Narnaul was the coldest place in Haryana with a low of 1.5 deg C, which was five notches below normal. Amritsar in Punjab recorded a low of 2.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. The cold conditions continued to prevail in major parts of Jammu and Kashmir despite an improvement in the night temperatures. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 5.4 degrees. Tourist spots of Pahalgam and Gulmarg registered a low of minus 5.6 each. People in the national capital experienced winter chill as mercury plummeted to the season's lowest of 5.2 degree Celsius, which was three degrees below normal. The mid and lower hills of Himachal Pradesh reeled under sub-zero temperatures. The mercury hovered around the freezing point in lower hills. Barring state capital Shimla, which recorded a low of 6.4 degrees, the night temperatures in other parts were three to four deg C below normal. In Rajasthan, Churu remained the coldest place for the second consecutive day by recording a low of 3.6 degrees Celsius followed by Pilani at 4.4 degrees.
