North India experiences showers for second successive day

Most parts of north India experienced showers for second successive day today as two more people perished in heavy showers in Uttar Pradesh. Both the casualties were reported from Kaushambi district with the death toll this season touching 66 in the state. Capital Lucknow recorded 94.4 mm rainfall as major rivers breached embankments resulting in a flood-like situation at many places. Meanwhile, sun came out blazing in the national capital that resulted in mercury rising by several notches a day after the city received widespread rains. The maximum stood at 35 degree Celcius against 29.2 degree Celcius yesterday while the minimum was recorded at 26.6 degrees. The city recorded 2.7 mm overnight rainfall and .2 mm of rain during the day while the humidity levels oscillated between 62 and 92 per cent. In the Punjab and Haryana region, many parts experiencedlight showers as temperatures stayed within normal range. Ambala and Hisar in Haryana recorded an identical temperature of 34.3 degree Celcius while the maximum in Chandigarh settled at 34 degrees followed by Amritsar 32.4 degree Celcius, Karnal 32 degree Celcius and Ludhiana and Patiala 31.9 degree Celcius each. In Rajasthan, monsoon showers continued to lash many parts with Jaipur recording a rainfall of 16.6 mm followed by Ajmer 9.7 mm and Churu 6 mm.
