North India experiences season's first snowfall

Some parts of North India experienced their first heavy snowfall of the season . Our Srinagar correspondent reports that the temperature has come down substantially and roads from Srinagar to Kargi, Kupwara to Karna and Sophiyan to Rajouri via Mogal road have been closed.

In Himachal Pradesh, cold wave conditions persisted with icy winds sweeping away most parts of the region. The upper reaches of the state received moderate snowfall, with the Rohtang Pass recording a maximum of 45 cms.

Although the minimum temperature rose marginally yesterday, it continued to remain below normal in most parts of the state.

According to the MeT department, various parts of the state, including capital Shimla and its surrounding areas, were also lashed by rain and thundershowers. The local MeT office has predicted rain or thundershowers at isolated places across the state today.

Meanwhile, Delhiites witnessed a light drizzle yesterday and the minimum temperature witnessed a slight dip. The drizzle was witnessed late in the evening but there was no heavy downpour.

The capital has been experiencing winter chill for the past few days and the drizzle added to it.
