North India continues to shiver

Cold wave continued to sweep North India.

Delhiites today woke up to the chilliest morning of the season so far with mercury settling at a low of 3.3 degree Celsius. Today's minimum was five degrees below normal and down from Friday’s six degree Celsius.

Friday recorded the lowest maximum temperature for the season at 19.9 degree Celsius. The Weatherman has predicted a further fall in mercury on Christmas morning to two degree Celsius. On Sunday, the maximum could be at 19 degree Celsius.

The coldest day of the season so far was December 16, when minimum dropped to 4.7 degree Celsius and maximum to 21.7 degrees.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is in the grip of severe cold wave.

The intensity of cold has increased with the night temperature coming down below normal in hilly areas. One person reported killed in Nainital due to cold.

In Uttar Pradesh, severe cold conditions continued, but the bright sunshine yesterday brought some relief. Shallow fog at many places in the state caused late running of several trains.

In Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh there is not much respite from cold wave conditions and fog.

However, people heaved a shy of relief from biting cold in Bihar following bright sunshine today. Shallow fog at many places in the state caused late running of several trains. Air traffic is normal as the weather is clear in Patna.

The Met department has predicted improvement of weather condition in the coming days.

AIR Patna correspondent reports that the State Government had released about Rs 23 lakhs for arranging bonfire at different places throughout the state.

AIR correspondent reports the divisional headquarters are given Rs 1 lakh each and the districts are given Rs. 50,000 each for the purpose.
