North India continues to reel under severe cold

North India reels under intense cold condition. New Delhi saw temperature hovering at 8 degrees celsius on Tuesday morning. However, flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International airport in the capital remained normal due to absence of fog.<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, 18 more cold related deaths were reported from various districts.<br/><br/>In Bihar, cold wave has so far claimed 21 lives through out the state.<br/><br/>AIR Chandigarh Correspondent reports that Amritsar in Punjab recorded 4 degrees celsius at 0530 hrs Tuesday morning, while Hissar in Haryana recorded 6.4 degrees.<br/><br/>In Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar saw temperature dipping to -2.4 degrees on Tuesday morning.<br/><br/>With ice cold conditions along-with foggy weather conditions hindering movement of heavy vehicles on the National Highway, normal life is getting paralyzed in Jammu with people preferring to remain indoors.<br/><br/>Due to the fog, the train services continued to remain haywire with most of them arriving at Jammu Railway Station much beyond their scheduled timings. <br/><br/>In Himachal Pradesh, Sunder nagar experienced 2 degrees celsius. <br/><br/>In Rajasthan, the State Govt. has announced closure of all schools for two days from Tuesday due to severe cold.<br/><br/>According to the Met Department, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India on 12th and 13th January. It will cause fairly widespread moderate to rather heavy snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.<br/><br/>Light to moderate rainfall at a few places is also forecast over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Met Department says dense fog is unlikely over Indo-Gangetic plains during next 3 days. However, isolated pockets may experience shallow fog conditions during morning hours.<br/><br/>Minimum temperatures over northwest India will increase by 2-4’C during next 48 hours, leading to abatement of cold wave conditions. However, cold day conditions are likely to continue in some parts.
