North India continues to reel under severe cold wave

North India continues to reel under severe cold wave.

Kashmir valley is in the grip of intense cold with minimum temperature in Srinagar plummeting to minus 5.5 degree Celsius, recording the coldest night of the season.

Power supply, which was disrupted in the Kashmir valley due to heavy snowfall, has been partially restored. Normal life in the valley, however, continues to remain affected due to heavy snowfall.

Many areas in Himachal Pradesh continue to experience intermittent snowfall. While state capital Shimla received 20 centimetres of snowfall, Manali experienced 40 cm of snow yesterday.

In an unusual phenomenon, a few pockets in Punjab bordering Himachal Pradesh received snowflakes. MeT department has attributed this to change of wind direction favoured by low temperature.

In Uttarakhand, Dehradun was lashed by rain and hail yesterday bringing down the temperature.

In national capital Delhi, maximum temperature dipped to 18 degree Celsius, 3 degrees below normal.
