North India continues to reel under intense cold; UP, Bihar govts order closure of schools

Cold wave conditions continued in Northern India. Parts of Uttar Pradesh are under the severe grip of cold. Owing to the intense cold conditions in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has ordered closure of all schools up to class eight till Wednesday.Bihar government has also ordered the closure of all school till Tuesday.In Rajasthan, Severe cold wave is affecting normal life on fifth consecutive day on Monday as temps. are still below normal. Fog has also effected rail and road operations in some parts the state.Delhiites also continue to experience biting cold. The Met office says cold wave conditions will prevail with a further drop in the minimum temperature in the metro. With mild icy winds blowing across the national capital, the people preferred to be indoor and traffic was also thin on the roads.In Jammu and Kashmir, the cold wave conditions intensified with mercury dipping a few notches further. The night temperature rose marginally in the plains of Himachal Pradesh but the hilly areas continue to be under sub-zero level.AIR Chandigarh correspondent reports that in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, dense fog disrupted normal life.
