The North-East monsoon has intensified in 15 districts of Tamil Nadu including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Sivagangai and Pudukottai. Heavy rains have been predicted today in seven districts including Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Kovai etc.<br />''<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Traffic on the Hill highway, near Aruvankadu, where the Central Ordnance factory functions, has been affected because of fallen trees. The services of the internationally renowned Heritage Hill Railway have been suspended because of widespread landslides.<br />''<br />''Heavy rains have been pounding various parts of Nilgiris and widespread damage to houses has been reported in Kundah, Ketti, Lovedale and Burliar areas.<br />''<br />''The Nilgiri District Collector Innocent Divya, told AIR Correspondent that people have been requested to approach and avail the services of communal shelters wherever widespread damages to houses have been reported. In Tamil Nadu, north-east monsoon has intensified bringing in heavy rains in many parts of the state. Many dams in the state are filling up and flood alert has been issued in many villages in Erode district. Met office has forecast more rain for the next two days. Holiday has been declared in northern districts of the state including Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur.

Heavy rain due to trough of low pressure near Gulf of Mannar and north east monsoon has left a trail of destruction in many parts of Theni, Nilgiris, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu. In Theni and Nilgiris roads have been damaged because of heavy rain. In Nagapattinam paddy crops have been damaged as rain water flooded the paddy fields.

In Tirunelveli district rain water has damaged crops. However, the main dams of southern parts of the state like Papanasam, Sevalarau, Manimutharu are filling up due to continuous rain. In Erode the Gunderpallam reservoir is overflowing and flood alert has been issued in seven villages including Konkanpalayam and Vinobha Nagar. People living in low-lying areas are being warned using tom-toms to go to safer places. Met office has warned fishermen not to venture out into the sea as winds at the speed of 45 to 55 KMPH will be lashing the sea near Tamil Nadu coast.
