The North East Monsoon is active over Tamil Nadu, with many coastal districts being lashed by heavy rains. The Weather office in Chennai has forecast more rains during the next 48 hours. A bulletin issued by the met office in Chennai on Thursday evening says, isolated extremely heavy rain of 25 cm or more would occur over Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore and Vilupuram districts of Tamil Nadu and Puduchery during the next 24 hours. Following forecast of heavy rainfall, the administration has announced that schools will remain closed in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Cuddalore districts on Friday. Meanwhile the Tamil Nadu government has announced a compensation of two lakh rupees each to the kin of the 88 persons killed in various rain related incidents. Collectors of the rain hit Madurai, Erode, Dharmapuri and Cuddalore have been asked to submit reports on damage to crops.
