Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said North East has special place in our hearts and it can be made as ‘Heaven of Peace.’ Expressing satisfaction over peace talks with different militant groups he said, government was prepared to extend its hand of friendship to any group that wanted to hold talks.’We have made an extra effort to hold out the hand of friendship to any person or organisation which comes forward to discuss problems,’ Chidambaram said.He was in Shillong to review passing out parade of 36th batch of trainee police officers at the North East Police Academy. Mr Chidambaram said he was happy to report that almost all militant groups have been in talks with government-appointed interlocutors.He said violence has no place in a democracy. A little more effort, a give-and-take attitude and more understanding can help address all issues.Mr Chidambaram said his ministry has an ambitious plan worth 85 crore rupees to transform the NEPA into a shining example for other such institutions.
