Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said, North East has a special place in our hearts and it can be made ‘Heaven of Peace.’ Mr Chidambaram said addressing the passing out parade of the North East Police Academy on the outskirts of Shillong.He said, ‘we have made an extra effort to hold out the hand of friendship to any person or organisation which comes forward to discuss problem” He was in Shillong to review passing out parade of 36th batch of trainee police officers at the North East Police Academy. Mr Chidambaram said he was happy to report that almost all groups or organisations have been in talks with government-appointed interlocutors.’Violence has no place in a democracy.A little more effort, a give-and-take attitude and more understanding can help address all issue” Mr Chidambaram said his ministry has an ambitious plan worth 85 crore rupees to transform the NEPA into a shining example for other such institutions.StateHaryana Govt to construct North-South corridorHaryana Government has decided to construct 156 kilometer long North South Corridor in the state with estimated cost of 1201.70 crore rupees, aimed at increasing access, connectivity and stimulating economic growth in the most backward regions.Planning commission has approved this project and has agreed to give 20 percent of total project cost as Maximum Viability Gap Funding (VGF). Planning Commission would give 240.34 crore rupees for this project being undertaken by the state on a Design, built, finance, own and transfer (DBFOT) basis.Since inception of Haryana on 1st November, 1966 that is 44 years ago, this is trhe biggest road project being carried by the state under DBFOT basis. This project will provide major connectivity between states like Rajastan, Gujarat and Maharashtra to North Indian states of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
