Normal life affects in Nepal by three day bandh calls by Indigenous Nationalities

In Nepal, normal life was crippled across most parts of the country by the three day bandh called by the Indigenous Nationalities Struggle. The three day bandh has been called by the Committee comprising various organisations working for the rights and welfare of indigenous nationalities, including Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) who are demanding identity based federalism, scrapping of the eleven province proposal agreed between the three main political parties, the UCPN ( Maoist), Nepali Congress and the CPN_UML .

Marketplaces, educational institutions, offices and industries remained closed on the first day of the bandh . In Kathmandu, police have detained sixty activists while more than a dozen vehicles were vandalized with a number of vehicles belonging to the press being targeted and reports of scuffles with the press persons . The bandh also affected normal life in other districts of the country with reports of arson and vandalism in Morang, Jhapa, Makawnpur and Nawalprasi.

Meanwhile , government has called the NEFIN for talks . Minister for peace and reconstruction Top Bahadur Rayamajhi today urged NEFIN to call off nationwide strike and sit for talks.
