Nonagenarian Forward Bloc leader Ashok Ghosh passes away

Nonagenarian Forward Bloc leader, Ashok Ghosh passed away in Kolkata today. ?Mr. Ghosh, aged 94, breathed his last due to ?septicemia and ?multi-organ failure at about half-past 11 AM at a private hospital in Kolkata. Suffering with old age-related complications, the Left leader was being treated at the hospital for a month after being admitted with lung infection.<br/><br/>Mr. Ghosh took over as state secretary of All India Foward Bloc in 1946 and had been re-elected to the post for the past seven decades, making him the longest serving leader at the post in any party.<br/><br/>Political leaders across the party lines, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, state Left Front chairman Biman Bose and Congres?s? leader Abdul Mannan, condoled the veteran leader's demise, expressing great loss. A number of them visited the hospital. <br/><br/>Ms. Banerjee in a message said, "Saddened on the passing away of veteran politician Asok Ghosh. Condolences to his family and friends." Her colleague in the state cabinet, Subrata Mukherjee said Mr. Ghosh was personally above political narrow-mindedness and asked every leader and political activist to remain so. RSP leader, Manoj Bhattacharya and others also expressed grief and said his demise is a big blow to the Left movement.
