In Assam, nominations of two Aam Admi Party candidates were rejected after scruitiny for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections for five seats on the 7th of next month.
54 candidates, including 5 women, are left in the fray. Tomorrow is the last date of withdrawal of nominations.
Out of the candidates, whose nominations were found valid, 17 are below 40 years of age. 27 years old Hrisikesh Baruah an independent candidate from Lakhimpur seat, is the youngest in the lot.
64 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in this phase. Three major parties the Congress, BJP and Asom Gana Parishad have fielded candidates in all the five seats.
The prominent candidates whose political fate will be decided in the first phase include Congress candidate Pawan Singh Ghatowar and B K Handique and State BJP President Sarbanand Sonowal.
Asom Gana Parisahd’s Joseph Toppo and Arun Sharma ,Aam Adami Party candidate manoram gogoi and CPI’s Drupad Buragohain are also in the fray.
