Nominations for the first phase of Assembly elections ended today in West Bengal and Assam. In West Bengal, 18 seats will go to polls in this phase on the 4th of April. In Assam, polling in this phase will be held in 65 assembly seats in Barak valley hill districts and Upper and North Assam. <br/><br/>In Bengal, acting tough after charges of laxity and partiality the Election Commission last night removed 34 officials including a District Magistrate and four Superintendents of Police, one SDO and two SDPOs in the poll-bound West Bengal. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held tomorrow in both the states.
