In Uttar Pradesh, nominations for elections for heads for Kshetra Panchayats were filed today at all 821 block head quarters spread over all 72 districts. Polling will be held on 22nd of this month and it will be held on the system of proportional representation on single transferable vote. Candidates may withdraw their nominations tomorrow. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports in several blocks from many districts candidates have been declared elected unopposed and most of them are ruling Bahujan Samaj Party supported. In Sultanpur district jailed head of Dhanpatganj Kshetra Panchayat successfully retained his seat. He is supported by the BSP. In Ballia district from 9 blocks out of 17 and in Beharaich from 7 blocks out of 14 only one each has filled nominations. In Lakhimpur Kheri district from 6 Kshetra Panchayats out of 15 BSP supported candidates have been declared elected unopposed. In Pratapgarh district Congress supported candidates are successful to get elected unopposed from 3 blocks. Opposition parties including Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party alleged misuse of government machinery by the ruling party in favour of their supported candidates. They have alleged that in several districts their candidates were intimated from filing nomination papers. They have send representations to the State Election Commission in this regard. Meanwhile main opposition Samajwadi Party organised demonstration at all district headquarters against the arrest of its four leaders including Chief Whip of Samajwadi Party in Lok Sabha, Shailendra Kumar and three MLAs and lodging fake criminal cases against them. Shailendra Kumar and controversial independent MLA from Kunda, Raja Bhaiyya, MLA Vinod Saroj and MLC Akshay Pratap Singh were arrested yesterday in Pratapgarh district.
