The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh today asked Civil Servants to show boldness in decision making. Addressing them on the Civil Services Day, he assured them that there will be no witch hunting in the name of fighting corruption.
Dr. Singh urged the Civil Servants to work towards building a corruption free, more transparent and accountable system for efficient delivery of services to the people. He said, the UPA government have made substantial progress towards strengthening the legislative frame work and revamping administrative practices to fight corruption better.
Dr. Singh also said, the sustainability of economic growth process would come into question if it is not inclusive and the benefits do not reach the grass root level.
The Prime minister also pointed out that there is a growing perception that the moral fiber of civil servants and public servants in general, is not as strong as it used to be some decades back. He said, these perceptions might be exaggerated but there seems to be a grain of truth in them.
He asked the civil servants to ponder to what extent this perception is true and what can collectively be done to remove it from the public mind. Dr. Singh said, the decisions by civil servants must be fair and objective in nature, based on sound evidence and deep analysis and designed to serve the best interests of our country.
He said, the UPA government is committed to put in place a system and create an environment in which civil servants are encouraged to be decisive, and no one is harassed for bona fide mistakes of judgment.
