The government today said that no instances of unnecessary removal of uterus, known as hysterectomy operations, have been reported under the National Rural Health Mission in any government hospital in Bihar. This was stated by the Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad in response to a Calling Attention notice on the subject in the Rajya Sabha. He said that a total of 16,765 hysterectomies have been reportedly performed under the Rashtriya Swasth Bima Yojana in eleven districts of Bihar during the last two years. Mr Azad said all these operations have been performed in the private institutions.
