<span style="color: #222222;">Sri Lanka People's party (SLPP) has stated that its Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa had legally renounced his citizenship of the United States, rejecting rumours to the contrary. Mr Gotabaya' attorney Ali Sabry told a special press brief on Sunday that there is no truth in the rumours that he is still a citizen of the US. He said, all documents related to the renouncement of citizenship have been handed over to the Elections Commission. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Earlier, SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa published the Loss of Certificate document confirming that Gotabaya Rajapaksa is not a US citizen anymore. Mr Rajapaksa held a dual US citizenship but claimed to have renounced it early this year for contesting the Presidential polls. The fresh controversy erupted after his name was not included in the latest US list of persons who renounced their citizenship. Presidential elections are scheduled on Saturday where Gotabaya's main contest is with minister Sajith Premadasa.</span><br />
