No threat of radioactivity: NPC

In Karnataka, amidst reports of leakage in Kaiga Nuclear Plant, the Nuclear Power Corporation said that there is no threat of radioactivity. In a press statement it said that on thorough survey of the plant, no indication of heavy water leakage from any of the reactors was found. However, it said that contamination of a water cooler could be the reason behind traces of radioactivity in the bioassay samples collected from some workers. Based on the analysis of these samples, a few personnel were advised for routine medical check up as per laid down procedures and they are attending to their normal duties. Our correspondent reports that the contaminated water cooler is isolated and the reasons behind its contamination are being investigated.
