No request received regarding allocation of coal blocks: Coal Minister

Government today made it clear that no request has been received from any State government regarding allocation of coal blocks. Replying supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, the Coal Minister Mr. Sriprakash Jaiswal said that presently no coal or lignite block is on offer for allocation. Mr. Jaiswal made it clear that the coal blocks are placed at the disposal of the Power Ministry which determines the linkage of blocks with the power projects. He elaborated that the blocks are being awarded on the basis of tariff based competitive bidding. Referring to captive dispensation route, he said under this dispensation, coal blocks are identified for allocation for generation of power, production of iron, steel and cement. He added under this route applications are invited only from the State and the Central government enterprises and no private company is eligible for allocation.<br/>
