The Supreme Court today said that there is no request made by the CBI to Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan seeking sanction to prosecute Justice Nirmal Yadav of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the 'cash-at-judge's door scam'. A statement issued by the Secretary General of apex court M P Bhadran said the reports appearing in the media in this regard are incorrect. The clarification came in view of the reports that Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association has flayed the CJI and former Attorney General Milon K Banerji for allegedly denying such sanction and giving legal opinion that no case for prosecution is made out against Justice Yadav. Mr Bhadran said, even the final report in this regard has not been shown to the CJI by CBI. A designated CBI court in Chandigarh had also expressed its dissatisfaction with the investigating agency's report for closure of the case and sought a response from the complainant.
