In Rajasthan, the agitating Gujjars did not get any relief from the High Court today. The High Court in an important decision extended the stay on SBC Reservation Act for another one year. This act provides for five per cent reservation to the Special Backward Classes including Gujjars. The Rajasthan High Court bench, comprising of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Mahesh Bhagwati has directed the state government to collect fresh data about the castes and communities included in the SBCs within one year. After this exercise only, any move to grant reservation to SBCs can be initiated by the government. With this, the Act providing 5 per cent quota to SBCs shall be treated un-constitutional, and no reservation benefit will be given to them. Meanwhile, the Maha-Padav of Gujjar activists continued in Pilupura village of Bhartpur district disrupting train services on Delhi-Mumbai section. Bus services between Bayana-Hindaun, Hindaun-Karauli and Karauli-Bharatpur remained suspended and the agitators have jammed the roads.
