The Defence Minister, Mr. A.K. Antony has clarified that there will be no reduction in troops in Jammu and Kashmir. Talking to media persons on board the newly commissioned INS Deepak today, he said that the Army has been posted as per need at the Line of Control and in the State. He, however, said that a number of other paramilitary forces will be reduced as per the government decision. In reply to a query on various Army land scams in the country, the Defence Minister said, the entire Army land record is being computerised. He also said that the system of granting No Objection Certificate for the sale of defence land is being reviewed. Earlier, commissioning the new tanker INS Deepak, the Defence Minister said, India needs a continuous presence in the Indian Ocean Region to safeguard its maritime interests. He further said that the Indian Ocean Region is strategically vital for India's security and that the government will provide whatever is required to strengthen the maritime security. The Defence Minister further added that there will be more acquisition and commissioning of ships to maintain its increased presence in the western sea. AIR Correspondent reports that the commissioning of INS Deepak will revolutionise the combat support operations at sea and extend the reach of the naval power of the nation.
