Supreme Court has said, criminal proceedings in heinous and serious criminal offences cannot be quashed by courts on the ground that the accused and the victim have compromised. A bench headed by Justice R M Lodha yesterday said heinous and serious offences of mental depravity or offences like murder, rape and dacoity can not be fittingly quashed even though the victim or victim’s family and the offender have settled the dispute.
The bench, however, said the high court can quash criminal cases which are civil in nature.
