No provisioning benefits if borrower seek recast for second time: RBI

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Anand Sinha on Monday said that if banks were to restructure loans of troubled micro finance institutions for the second time, they will not get any benefits in terms of provisioning. Mr. Sinha said this on the sidelines of a function organised by Ficci in Mumbai. He said RBI prescribes guidelines that if a borrower, who has already availed corporate debt restructuring, plans to seek recast for the second time, then banks will have to provide 15 per cent as provision.On the occasion, Mr. Sinha also said Bank licence aspirants will have to comply with all the guidelines set by the central bank. According to reports, some applicants had asked for a special dispensation from the central bank, exempting them from some mandatory requirements.
