No proposal to make comprehensive law for landless labourers: Govt

The government today said, as of now there is no proposal under consideration to make comprehensive law for landless labourers. Replying to questions in the Rajya Sabha, Labour and Employment Minister, Mallikarjun Kharge said, landless labourers are getting numerous benefits under various schemes. He said landless labourers constitute a segment of unorganised sector workforce and their interest is covered by Acts like the Unorganised Workers' Social Security Act, 2008 and the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. Mr.Kharge said, government is thinking of amending nine labour laws including the Employment Exchange Act, 1959, the contract labour act, 1970 and the Labour Laws Act, 1988 for betterment of labour.
