No proposal to lift ban on export of beef: Nirmala Sitharaman

There is no proposal to lift the ban on export of beef. Informing this in the Lok Sabha, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the existing export policy is in the interest of the farmers, livestock producers, meat consumers and traders. In a written reply, Mrs Sitharaman said as per the existing Meat Export Policy, the export of beef is prohibited and is not permitted to be exported. She said representations are being received from time to time from some religious organisations demanding ban on export of meat and products. The minister also informed in 2007, as per the directions of the Supreme Court, the central government had reviewed the meat export policy and it was decided that the current meat export policy needs no change.
