The Government today categorically said that there is no proposal, as of now, to increase the administered prices of petroleum products and fertilizers.

Giving this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Finance Minister Mr P Chidambaram said that there is also no proposal at present to universalize the Public Distribution System as this may result dilution of its focus on poor.

The Finance Minister said that the government monitors the price situation regularly and takes various measures to contain inflation. He also elaborated the various measures taken by the government to check the price rise of essential commodities.
