Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa has said that there is no proposal for her party to join BJP-led NDA at the Centre. She said that National Democratic Alliance (NDA) does not need any support as the BJP and the alliance have full majority.
The Chief Minister was responding to a media query after her meeting with Prime Minster Narendra Modi in New Delhi this evening. However, when asked about her party's support to NDA in the Rajya Sabha, where the alliance does not have majority, she said, she will see if such situation arises.
The Chief Minister demanded that the fifteen per cent unallocated power generated from Central power plants including Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in the state should be allocated to Tamil Nadu. However, she clarified that she has not made any demand for special status for Tamil Nadu.
On a query, she said that she has also taken up Tamil Nadu fishermen issue with Mr Modi. In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, she requested him to make all efforts to protect the traditional fishing rights of Tamil Nadu fishermen in the Palk Bay area and to ensure their safety and security. Ms Jayalalithaa also requested formation of Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee for implementation of the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
Jayalalithaa said Mr Modi promised that he will do everything possible to meet the need of the state.
AIR correspondent reports this was the first meeting of Ms Jayalaithaa with Mr Modi after he was sworn-in as the Prime Minister.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also called on President Pranab Mukherjee.
