No problem in appearing before PAC: Army Chief

Army Chief General V K Singh on Thursday said he has no problem in appearing before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee in connection with alleged irregularities in Canteen supplies. Talking to reporters in Delhi, Mr Singh said he had not seen the communication sent by the PAC but noted that usually the Defence Ministry sends the people concerned with the senior officials whenever the Committee writes to it. The PAC has, in an unprecedented move, called the Chiefs of the Services to appear before it on 12th of this month to question them about alleged irregularities in Canteen and Stores Department as highlighted by the CAG. Highlighting the irregularities in the Canteen, the Comptroller and Auditor General had said, the existing procedure for provisioning of dry rations failed to assess the requirement realistically. The communication from the PAC was received by theDefence Ministry yesterday and it was forwarded to the three Services, asking them to provide assistance to the Committee as desired by it.
