In Orissa, there will be no power cut from today. Announcing this at Bhubaneswar, Orissa’s Minister of State for Energy, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, said production in hydro power plants in the state has improved significantly for which the load shedding is being lifted from today.

Sources said, now Orissa Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) will provide 800 megawatt of power to the grid and this is likely to ease the situation in a big way. Orissa was facing shortfall by 400-500 MW and now it will be able to lift power cut with the OHPC support.

At a time when West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and many other states are resorting to on an average 10 hours load shedding due to non-availability of power, Orissa has show the way to others in power management. Orissa is drawing 800 MW each from hydro and thermal power plants, 700 MW from central grids and 400 MW from different captive power plants.
