No plans to meet anti-POSCO project activists: Patnaik

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday said he has no plans to meet and discuss with anti-POSCO project activists. Patnaik, who returned from New Delhi Wednesday afternoon, told media persons at Bhubaneswar that Odisha government will take necessary steps after deeply going into the conditions set by the Centre for the 12 million tonnes per annum steel project at Jagatsinghpur in Odisha. He said all additional conditions set by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests will be studied one by one and compliance report in this regard will be sent to the Centre. The Odisha Chief Minister, however, said he is aware of the protests being made by local people against the 51,000 crore rupee steel project for loss of livelihood and his government will also look into it and review the situation from time to time. Meanwhile, Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti, an umbrella organisation protesting the POSCO project, has re-started its agitation soon after Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh gave conditional nod to POSCO project and port. It has guarded all entry points into the project site from today and has decided not to allow any government official, police personnel and POSCO representatives.
