Afghanistan President Mr. Hamid Karzai has said that there would be no place for corrupt officials in his new administration, at the same time warning against new form of corruption found in international contracts in his country. Mr. Karzai said donor countries share some of the responsibility for rampant corruption because of a poorly structured system to manage projects. Mr. Hamid Karzai, who will be sworn in as President for second term later this month, has come under a lot of western pressure recently for tackling corruption and improving governance. The Afghan President attributed the differences of opinion to lack of understanding between the two sides and called for the need to sit down and settle some of these issues.

Asked about the threat of western support fading if he fail to improve governance, Mr. Karzai said it does not bother him adding the west is not here primarily for the sake of Afghanistan rather it is here to fight the war on terror. He said the United States and its allies came to Afghanistan after September 11 but Afghanistan was troubled like hell before that too and nobody bothered. He said the West was asking them to make up with the Taliban and the terrorists before that incident but now it is in Afghanistan to fight terrorism, and that is an interest Afghan government shares.
