No permission to local, foreign institutional investors

The government today said there is no move to give permission to local and foreign institutional investors to enter the market at present. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, minister of agriculture and consumer affairs, Sharad Pawar, said at present the legal framework of forward contracts Act, 1952 which regulates the functioning of the commodity futures market does not provide for registration and regulation of local and foreign institutional investors in commodity futures. Mr Pawar, however, said the government is considering to introduce a Bill to amend the Forward Contracts Regulation Act, 1952.
