The Centre has not accorded any permission for mining activity in the scheduled forest lands of tribal areas in Andhra Pradesh, announced the Union Minister for Tribal Welfare and Panchayat Raj, Kishore Chandra Suryanarayan Dev in Visakhapatnam Sunday evening.AIR correspondent reports, speaking in a media conference held late Sunday evening the Union Minister who is on visit to Visakhapatnam to review the Girijan Corporation activities for the welfare of the Tribal people, said that Union government will not allow any illegal activity of mining in the Tribal lands of the country for non-tribal purpose. Without conducting Gram Sabha in the Scheduled areas there is no question of any activity being taken up either commercially or industry wise, he said. He also said, there should be some fixed dates for conducting Gram Sabhas four times in a year so that the local villagers in the tribal areas could attend. And the Gram Sabhas are subject to video recording. If need be, the Minister said, special powers of the Governors of the States would be initiated to halt any illegal activities in the tribal areas. The Minister also said that a new policy will be drafted for providing Minimum Support Price for forest produce in scheduled areas for the benefit of tribals and for which consultations would be initiated with all the stake holders as well as State government administrations soon.
