The Meteorological department today came out with some positive news that there would be no or minimal rainfall during the sporting event. The IMD's prediction assumes significance because Delhi has been witnessing continuous heavy downpour in recent weeks, triggering concerns that rains could play spoilsport during the Games.Dr Ajit Tyagi of the MET department told this to reporters at a function this evening. Minister of state for Earth Sciences Prithviraj Chavan whowas present said that monsoon is on the wane in Rajasthan and North India region and the Games would be virtually free of any showers. Mr. Chavan earlier inagaurated a state-of-the-art Integrated Forecasting and Communication System . It is expected to provide more accurate weather data.Mr. Chavan said accurate data will help agriculture and so many other sectors of economy, as they are highly dependent on weather and climate. The minister explained that to convert an age old organisation into a modern state-of-the-art system using the latest observational platforms, computing equipment, communications network was a great challenge.
