No optional paper in civil services prelims from next year

From next year, there will be no optional paper in the civil services preliminary examination and candidates will have to sit for two compulsory papers that will cover subjects like Indian polity, governance and communication skills. With UPSC changing the syllabus and pattern, the preliminary examination would have two papers, Paper I and Paper II with 200 marks and to be completed in two hours each. An official release said that subjects in Paper I include current events of national and international importance, history of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography. The Paper II will have subjects like general science, interpersonal skills, logical reasoning and analytical ability.
